How to migrate the file server

Take inventory
List the shared folders, the size of each and who uses them. Take the chance to delete what nobody has opened in years.

Create folders per department
One sub-account with an isolated folder for each area, with its own credential. Whoever is not in Finance does not see Finance.

Copy the files
Use rclone or copy straight to the mapped drive. The first copy takes longer; then sync only the differences until the cutover.

Map on each computer and retire the old one
Map the new drive on every computer, confirm with the team and only then turn off the old share.

Does it work with Windows and Mac?
Yes. On Windows, the folder comes in through "Map network drive" (WebDAV); on Mac, through Finder, "Connect to Server". It also works over SFTP, with programs like FileZilla and WinSCP.
What if someone deletes a folder?
Automatic read-only snapshots keep previous versions of the space, and deleted content can be recovered from them, with help from our support team.
Can I edit large files directly in the cloud?
For reference and everyday files, yes. For heavy real-time editing of large files (video, CAD), internet latency gets in the way: work on a local copy and store the final version on the file server.
